From Dublin to Kerry

Dublin is the boisterous heart of Ireland, the “family home.” It should not be missed, of course, but Dublin will only whet your appetite for the rest of the country. Save time to explore other areas for the essential Irish experience. South of the capital lie the Wicklow Mountains, with the popular Glendalough at their heart - half religious site, wholly spectacular from a scenic point of view.

Farther south lies the fascinating Viking town of Wexford, from where the long, rambling southern coast of Ireland runs through endless great bays toward the distant west (and the most spectacular scenery). The western coast stretches for nearly 180 miles north to south, but measures much more if all the sinuous indentations, bays, river mouths, peninsulas and islands are taken into account.
Try to visit the far southwest. Take in the charming historic city of Kilkenny on the way; and visit Cork, the Irish Republic's second largest city, where you can kiss the nearby Blarney Stone if you feel that you should. Beyond Cork lies the glorious Beara peninsula. The bigger Iveragh peninsula is part of exquisite County Kerry to the north, land of the great mountains of Macgillycuddy's Reeks and the delightful lakes, and town, of Killarney.
