MEDICAL INSURANCE
Private medical insurance is recommended. U.S. and Canadian visitors can receive emergency treatment, but are charged if admitted to a hospital (ziekenhuis). DENTAL SERVICES
Dentists charge for treatment and can be expensive. Look in the telephone directory, or ask about local dentists at your hotel or embassy. Tourist Medical Service: dentist Phone:020 570 9595.

SUN ADVICE
The Netherlands' maritime climate is not one of extremes, but precautions against sunburn should be taken from June through August.

DRUGS
For nonprescription medicines go to a pharmacy (drogisterij). If you need prescription medicines you will have to go to an apotheek, where staff also are trained to treat minor ailments. If you need medicine outside regular hours, information about all-night facilities are posted at all pharmacies.

SAFE WATER
Tap water is safe to drink throughout the Netherlands. Mineral water is widely available.
