Traveling in Spain

The economic boom of the last two decades has resulted in a sound infrastructure. Spain has an excellent network of well-signed toll roads and highways. Spaniards drive fast but safely, and you should have no problems if you rent a car. Public transportation is good, with a choice of internal flights, inexpensive and punctual trains, and long-distance buses going to even the most remote corners.

Hotels are graded and inspected by the government, so you are guaranteed a clean and adequate room no matter how little you pay. Try to spend at least a few nights at one of the paradores. These are state-owned hotels housed in historic buildings such as castles and monasteries, often furnished with antiques and offering a high standard of comfort and service.
