HEALTH

MEDICAL INSURANCE
Private medical insurance is recommended. There are no general practitioners; go straight to a hospital clinic (akutmottagning or vårdcentral), taking your passport with you. You will be charged for treatment (free for under16). For information contact Stockholm Care, Phone:08 672 24 00.

DENTAL SERVICES
Dentists (tandläkeren) always charge for treatment. Emergency treatment is available after hours in major cities. Clinics are indicated by “Tandläkare” or “Folktandvård” signs.

SUN ADVICE
The Gulf Stream dictates Sweden's temperate climate of warm sunshine during July and August. Although the sun is not fierce, good sun protection is necessary. Take precautions near the water.

DRUGS
Prescription and nonprescription drugs and medicines are available from a pharmacy (apotek). If you need a pharmacy outside regular hours, information about the nearest all-night facility is posted at all pharmacies. A 24-hour service is available in most cities.

SAFE WATER
Tap water is safe to drink, and mineral water (mineralvatten) is widely available.
