About ShermanLaid out in 1846 as the seat of Grayson County, Sherman gained early prominence when the Butterfield Stage was routed through town. The town is named for Sidney Sherman, who coined the phrase “Remember the Alamo!” during the Battle of San Jacinto. It is nicknamed “Helldorado on the Cross” and “The Athens of Texas.”
