About ThonotosassaFort Foster, on the Hillsborough River in nearby Hillsborough River State Park, was used as a battle post and supply depot during the Second Seminole War. Abandoned in 1838 because of disease and the miserable, damp conditions, the fort and the bridge it guarded have been reconstructed on the original site. A tram transports visitors to the fort for a fee. Seasonal guided tours are available (weather permitting); phone (813) 987-6771.

AAA’s in-person hotel evaluations are unscheduled to ensure the inspector has an experience similar to that of members. To pass inspection, all hotels must meet the same rigorous standards for cleanliness, comfort and hospitality. These hotels receive a AAA Diamond designation that tells members what type of experience to expect.
