Fort Foster, on the Hillsborough River in nearby Hillsborough River State Park, was used as a battle post and supply depot during the Second Seminole War. Abandoned in 1838 because of disease and the miserable, damp conditions, the fort and the bridge it guarded have been reconstructed on the original site. A tram transports visitors to the fort for a fee. Seasonal guided tours are available (weather permitting); phone (813) 987-6771. Learn More...
