MONEY Scotland's currency is pounds sterling (£) issued by the three major Scottish banks (the Bank of Scotland, the Royal Bank of Scotland and the Clydesdale Bank) in notes of £1, £5, £10, £20, £50 and £100. Bank of England notes are legal tender and all coins are issued by the Royal Mint; there are 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, £1 and £2 coins. You can exchange foreign currency and travellers' cheques at banks and bureaux de change; banks are generally open 9am-4pm. Cashpoint machines can be found outside banks and building societies and operate 24 hours a day; they accept bank cards and also allow you advances on many credit cards. |
