Ashmolean Museum

The Ashmolean is a fascinating museum of grand oddities and elegant art, housed in a neoclassic building dating from the 1840s. The oldest museum in Britain, founded in 1683, the Ashmolean's extensive collection includes much medieval material; Greek, Roman and Egyptian artifacts; and fine Asian porcelain. The upper floor has a dazzling collection of Italian Renaissance paintings as well as early 20th-century art.
