Pitt Rivers Museum
This fascinating museum is a marvelous example of 19th-century museum culture. It displays the often wildly eccentric collection
of Lieutenant General Augustus Henry Lane Fox Pitt Rivers, who served throughout the British Empire and gathered many artifacts
along the way. The collection reflects the general's intense interest in tribal cultures and is an invaluable comment on the
human condition world-wide. The museum also displays unusual objects brought back by early anthropol-ogists and explorers,
including Captain Cook. The collection includes ritual masks, shrunken heads and weird magical objects.
