It was bought in 1980 by the York Civic Trust, which carried out an inspired restoration. Today, Fairfax House is one of the finest examples of an 18th-century town house in England. Enjoy the sumptuous plasterwork ceilings, damask hangings, marble fireplaces and magnificent furnishings.
