Fairfax House

This elegant house was lavishly decorated by Viscount Fairfax in 1759, but was neglected in later years. It was bought in 1980 by the York Civic Trust, which carried out an inspired restoration. Today, Fairfax House is one of the finest examples of an 18th-century town house in England. Enjoy the sumptuous plasterwork ceilings, damask hangings, marble fireplaces and magnificent furnishings.
