George Washington Carver National Monument

Museum exhibits and a 28-minute film in the visitor center pertain to Carver's life and work in the field of botany and his career as a teacher of scientific agriculture. The Discovery Center gives visitors the chance to try hands-on experiments and learn more about Carver's endeavors and achievements.

A self-guiding .7-mile trail winds through woods and fields Carver walked as a boy. Sites along the trail include the birthplace site, the “Boy Carver” statue by Robert Amendola and the Carver family cemetery. Ranger-led tours are offered daily at 10 and 2. Allow 1 hour minimum. Daily 9-5; closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Free. Phone (417) 325-4151.
