Coin-operated public phones exist, but phone card booths are more common. Phone cards (télécartes/kaarttelephoon) are available
from Belgacom Teleboutiques, post offices, train stations, bookstores and some newsstands for S5 or S10. Phones accept ing
credit cards are available at certain tourist sites. Dialing instructions in English are often displayed in public booths.
Phoning in Belgium
All Belgian telephone numbers in this book include an area code: dial the number listed. To call the operator dial 1307 (French-speaking areas) or 1207 (Flemish-speaking areas). Phoning Belgium from abroad The country code for Belgium is 32. Note that Belgian numbers in this book do not include the country code; you will need to prefix this number if you are phoning from another country. To phone Belgium from the United States or Canada, omit the first zero from the Belgian number and add the prefix 011 32. (Note that Belgian area codes are two or three digits.)
