HEALTH

MEDICAL INSURANCE
Private medical insurance is recommended. In an emergency, visitors from the U.S. and Canada can receive free temporary treatment in a hospital (hospitalet). You will be charged for more extensive treatment. Health offices (kommunes social og sundhedforvaltning) have lists of hospitals and doctors, or ask at your hotel.

DENTAL SERVICES
Dentists (tandlægen) will charge for any treatment given. They are listed in the telephone directory, and off-hours treatment is available in some clinics. Advice can be sought at tourist and health offices. Check that treatment is covered by your medical insurance.

SUN ADVICE
The warmest months are July and August. The sun in Denmark is not particularly fierce, but sun protection is still advised, especially on boats or near the water.

DRUGS
To obtain a prescription medicine at a pharmacy (apotek) it must be prescribed by a Scandinavian doctor, so make sure that your supply of prescribed medicines will last your stay. Additionally, some preparations available over the counter in the U.S. may be obtained in Denmark only with a prescription. Outside regular hours, the nearest all night facility is posted at all pharmacies.

SAFE WATER
Tap water is safe to drink, and mineral water (mineralvand) is widely available.
