USEFUL WORDS AND PHRASES
Danish is a Germanic language, close to Swedish and Norwegian, but it is tricky to pronounce because some letters (d, g) are silent in the middle or at the end of words, h before a v becomes silent, and some specifically Scandinavian vowels (å, ø, and æ) are awkward to say correctly. But Danes are aware of this, and most of them speak very good English. In addition, menus are often in English or German. In the Danish alphabet, the following letters come after z: å, ø and æ. (Århus, for example, comes at the end of the alphabet.) Å is used in place of aa, although the city of Aalborg prefers to write the two vowels out in full.
