Did You Know?
'In the whole of Christendom there is not a people to be found with the disposition of the citizens of Ghent.'
ERASMUS VAN ROTTERDAM (1469-1536)
A sign showing the old city towers and the technology fair welcomes the visitor off the motorway. Old and new exist side by side in Ghent and that includes the things to see. Romanesque architecture alongside modern buildings, medieval and contemporary art. But you have not visited Ghent properly if you have merely looked, because it is a city in which you must take part too, and there are endless possibilities for enjoying life. Ghent is actually a big village with the air of a city. The sights are spread out and it can be difficult to get a grip on this capital of East Flanders. But many people who come here for a weekend have lost their hearts to Ghent and some have even settled permanently in the the city.
