HEALTH

MEDICAL INSURANCE
Private medical insurance is recommended. U.S. and Canadian visitors can receive free transportation to a hospital (kórház) for emergency treatment. All further treatment and care has to be paid for. Fees for medical care are set by the individual hospital or practice. There is a 24-hour private medical care service with English-speaking doctors in Budapest: Falck SOS Hungary. It also has its own ambulance service Address: Kapy utca 49B , Budapest II Phone: 1 200 0100.

DENTAL SERVICES
Dentists (forgovos) charge for treatment, but quality dental work is relatively inexpensive. Check that it is covered by your medical insurance. Dentists are listed in the yellow pages; ask for English-speaking dentists at your embassy or hotel, or at a tourist office. There is a 24-hour dental service in Budapest: SOS Dental Service, Address: Király utca 14, Budapest VI Phone: 1 267 9602.

SUN ADVICE
Hungary has up to 2,500 hours of sun annually, one of the highest levels in Europe. In summer, 9 or 10 hours a day can be expected, so protection is essential.

DRUGS
A pharmacy (gyógyszetár or patica) sells both prescription and nonprescription medicines (bring your own medication if you need a specific product). Most are cheaper than similar U.S. products. Information about the nearest 24-hour facility is posted at all pharmacies.

SAFE WATER
Although tap water is safe, you may find it causes mild upsets. Bottled mineral water (ásvány víz) and soda water (szoda víz) are widely available and advised.
