Norsk Sjøfartsmuseum

The Norsk Sjøfartsmuseum (Norwegian Maritime Museum), on the tip of the Bygdøy peninsula, overlooks the waters of the Oslofjorden. In the main hall, Christian Krogh's great marine painting, Leiv Eriksson's Discovery of America, sets the scene for exhibits on shipping and the sea. The basement theater shows a video on Norway's maritime history. On the main floor is the escape boat, secretly made from rough plank ing by Norwegian sailors while they were imprisoned aboard their ships in West Africa by the Germans during World War II.
