Hampton Inn by Hilton Aiken

Hampton Inns in general have proven to be a good combination of cleanliness, comfort and value. Our trip to Aiken was two nights. The Hampton Inn Aiken did provide most of the benefits to which we are accustomed. However, we were put in a handicap room although neither of us are handicapped. While additional space is always welcome, we were quite surprised to find our room didn’t have a tub or enclosed shower. The shower was part of the floor with a drain. This is perfect for its intended user, but we weren’t happy with that set up. This hotel is definitely showing its age. The shower tiles were broken and the wallpaper was coming unglued from the bathroom walls, but everything was clean. Our room had a tiny sink outside the bathroom with almost no counter space. This was inconvenient. The room decor is dated, and we believe this hotel is ripe for a redo. In the breakfast area, my husband pointed out to the attendant that the toaster wasn’t working. She looked at it but didn’t seem to have a solution. Finally, upon returning to our room, we weren’t able to open the door. The housekeeper kindly tried to assist. After several trips to the front desk trying various key cards, maintenance was called. This gentleman discovered the batteries were dead in the lock. He had to use a special tool to open the door and get the batteries changed. It wasn’t a tremendous setback, but a bit annoying since we trying to get underway early.
