In a re-creation of an early 19th-century farm village, this quaint inn is decorated in the simple Shaker style with reproduction furnishings. Hanger space consists of hardwood pegs along the walls. The Shakers, a communal Christian sect that flourished in 19th-century Kentucky, are the people who gave us the hymn "'Tis a Gift to be Simple." That simplicity is reflected in the austere décor of the guest rooms with hardwood floors, modest size mirrors and straight-backed hardwood chairs that are utterly devoid of upholstery and offer limited comfort to one's backside. The flagstone walkways connecting the buildings are not friendly to patent leather shoes (particularly those with high heels). On the plus side, the traveler may admire the restored red brick and limestone buildings set in a green and bucolic hamlet of gardens and old trees. Smoke free premises. 72 units, some two bedrooms, houses and cottages. 2-4 stories (no elevator), interior/exterior corridors.
