SCENIC BYWAY

Wilderness Road Heritage Scenic Byway

100.8 miles: 2 hours, 16 minutes

After exiting Cumberland Gap Tunnel, Wilderness Road Heritage Scenic Byway (US 25E/SR 229/US 25) takes you onto a winding route through mountainous terrain with forested slopes draped by vines, rocky outcroppings and narrow valleys. The byway meanders past occasional creeks and rivers that run alongside and under the road, and small farms and towns.

Wilderness Road Heritage Scenic Byway follows the historic trail Daniel Boone blazed, also used by explorers, Native Americans and pioneers traveling from Cumberland Gap into the wilderness. Lush scenery around every curve makes it hard to stop in Renfro Valley, famous for toe-tapping mountain music, and Berea, the “Folk Arts and Crafts Capital of Kentucky.”
