Indeed, it is so cherished that locals prefer to forget about St. Louis' dark past. The town was originally dubbed "Mound City," and is now cheerfully known as "The Gateway to the Midwest." Conical clay monuments, mainly used as burial grounds, were once common among the region's indigenous people. The majority of the mounds were destroyed when the settlers arrived. St. Louis as we know it today grew on that stolen burial ground. On our St. Louis Ghost Tour, enter the eerie and confront the buried horrors.
