Croix-Rousse
The slopes of the Croix-Rousse (Red Cross) area rise at the north end of the Presqu'Île, the neck of land between the Saône
and Rhône rivers. This fascinating area was mainly occupied by religious institutions before the French Revolution, but the
institutions were dissolved in 1789, leaving the area open to redevelopment by the silk industry. Today it is a UNESCO World
Heritage Site and one of the liveliest, earthiest areas of Lyon.
