Prague is fortunate in the variety and proximity of its green spaces, from the wooded hillsides of Petřín and Letná to the public gardens near Wenceslas Square. For a quiet stroll, try the banks of the Vltava at Na Kampě or the former royal hunting grounds of Stromovka (trams 5, 12, 17, 51, 53 or 54 to Holesovice). Keep to the western end (away from the exhibition centre), which was planted as early as 1593, when the lakes and ponds were laid out. The landscaped slopes leading to the Summer Palace of the Czech Governors (1805-11) are a popular spot for picnics.
