Musée des Beaux-Arts

The elegant first-floor rooms of the Palais Rohan (Rohan Palace) house the Musée des Beaux-Arts (Fine Arts Museum), a comprehensive provincial collection covering European paintings from the Middle Ages to 1870. Memling's Polyptich of Vanity steals the show, although the museum is justly proud of La belle Strasbourgeoise, by Nicolas de Largillière - a portrait of an enigmatic local lady. The ground floor of this same Renaissance building is home to the separate Strasbourg's Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Decorative Arts Museum).
