This 350-acre multiuse complex, nestled on the shores of the Potomac River, comprises a marina, walking and biking trails, restaurants, shops, entertainment venues and Art Whino Gallery. More than a dozen works of public art can be seen as well. One of them is “The Awakening,” which consists of five separate sculpted pieces buried in the ground, depicting a stone giant coming out of the earth. This J. Seward Johnson Jr. sculpture was installed at Hains Point in East Potomac Park in Washington, D.C., in 1980 but was moved here in 2008. A carousel operates (weather permitting) Fri.-Tues. and Thurs. noon-8 (also Fri.-Sat. 8-10 p.m.) and Wed. 11-8, Memorial Day through Sept. 30 and Fri.-Sun. noon-8, Apr.-May and Oct.-Dec. at 137 National Plaza.
