About AndersonAnderson is nicknamed “Electric City” because of its early innovation with electric power. A statue of engineer William Church Whitner, who experimented with electricity, stands at the corner of W. Whitner and Main streets in front of the Anderson County Courthouse. Just east of the courthouse, at Generator Park, you can see the historic generator Whitner had operated at the Portman Shoals Power Plant.
