About MontevideoNamed for the capital of Uruguay, Montevideo lies among steep bluffs at the merging valleys of the Minnesota and Chippewa rivers. Beautifying the surroundings are some 140 acres of wooded parks. On a paved plaza downtown stands an 11-foot bronze statue of Jose Artigas, hero of Uruguayan independence.
