With its central location just off the main square in Cafayate, Bodego El Transito is a winery that is easy to reach on foot. Plan a visit to hear about the winery’s founding by an Italian immigrant in the late 19th century, to learn about local winemaking, and to taste several wines. Most visitors spend less than an hour at this winery and many purchase bottles to take home after a guided tasting. This winery is a common stop during a broader exploration of Cafayate.

How to get there

Bodega El Transito is located at Belgrano 102, just one block from Plaza de Cafayate, the main square. Most visitors arrive on foot or as part of a more expansive wine tour of Cafayate (with a tour guide as designated driver). Several hotels, restaurants, and wine bars are all located a short stroll away in the center of Cafayate.

When to get there

Spring and fall are the best times of year to plan a trip to Cafayate. In Argentina, the fall harvest occurs between late February and the end of March; plan a visit during this time to experience the annual harvest. The spring season offers pleasant weather from September through November.

Cafayate’s craft scene

Wine isn’t the only craft that Cafayate is known for. During a visit, stop by the artisan market (Mercado Artesanal Cafayate) to discover its wide range of traditional crafts, including blankets and scarves. These souvenirs are locally made and support local crafts makers.
