Central–Mid-Level Escalator
Jubilee Street, Central, Hong Kong, Hong Kong
The Mid-Levels Escalators is the world’s longest outdoor covered escalator system, stretching for over 2,600 feet (800 meters) and rising 443 feet (135 meters) from the heart of bustling Central to the residential Mid-Levels. It offers an easy way to traverse the hilly streets, and to explore an area full of attractions.
The Basics
The Mid-Levels Escalators is not actually one continuous escalator, but rather a series of 16 reversible one-way escalators and three reversible inclined walkways connected in places by footbridges. You can easily take the escalator from end to end, and enjoy the sights along the way. Or hop on and off at different stops and explore the surrounding areas, which are full of restaurants, bars, markets, galleries, and historic sights.
A number of sightseeing tours include a ride on the Mid-Levels Escalators, as well as stops at attractions nearby, including Man Mo Temple, Hollywood Road, and Cat Street Market. Or combine it with a few other iconic journeys in Hong Kong, including a ride on the Peak Tram, a ride on the Ding Ding Tram, and a Victoria Harbor cruise.
