The basics
Surfing is one of the most popular activities at Encuentro Beach; there are numerous surf schools and shops that offer equipment rentals, lessons, and surf camps. Visit the beach to surf or enjoy windsurfing and kiteboarding when the winds are blowing. It has a long stretch of golden sand and shade trees and is close to restaurants, bars, and shops, so Encuentro Beach is an ideal destination for a day in the sun that’s easy to visit independently.

How to get there
Encuentro Beach is on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, 4 miles (6 kilometers) from Cabarete and 7 miles (11 kilometers) from Sosua. There’s plenty of parking beside the beach. It’s an easy taxi ride from Cabarete or Sosua. Encuentra Beach is accessible by boat and included in some boat tours along the northern coast.
When to get there
Encuentra Beach is known for consistent breaks and can be surfed year-round. The best conditions for experienced surfers are generally between September and April, while smaller swells and calmer waves happen over the summer, making it an ideal time for beginners. Expect the largest crowds in the country from December through April and around the holidays.
Surf breaks at Encuentro Beach
Encuentro Beach is known for several named breaks. Intermediate surfers should stick with Bobo’s Point, The Left (La Izquierda), and Main Peak (La Derecha), while expert surfers can tackle Mini Tavarua, Destroyer, Coco Pipe, and Outers. The beginner’s area is closer to the shore between La Derecha and Bobo’s Point.
