The Estadio da Luz was built on top of the old Cathedral stadium and was completed in time to host the 2004 European Championship. On non-event days, the guided tours are available for guests to visit generally off-limits areas such as the dressing room, tunnels, and the pitch. How to Get There

The stadium is located at Av. Eusébio da Silva Ferreira in Lisbon’s Benfica neighborhood and is easily accessible by public transport. Visitors can take the Azul line to the Colegio Militar/Luz line, directly in front of the complex, as well as city bus 750 to the Estadio da Luz stop.

When to Get There

The best time to visit the stadium is during non-match days when you can visit the grounds without any crowds. For those who would like to see a game and experience the electrifying energy of this Portuguese tradition, plan to visit during the soccer season from September to June when there is generally a home game every 10 days.

The Benfica Cosme Damiao Museum

The interactive museum adjacent to the stadium is named after a soccer legend who established the Portuguese football league in the 1920s. The 3-floor museum features over 1,000 trophies, and offers visitors a chance to discover the rich history of soccer in Portugal as they explore exhibits and enjoy a movie about the club’s history.

The best way to experience the Estádio da Luz is during a soccer match, but if you’re not visiting when a game’s on, you can still take a stadium tour or visit the museum; admission to each attraction can be purchased separately, or as a combo ticket. Stadium tours grant you access to off-limits areas such as the dressing room, tunnels, and the pitch; evening tours let you explore after the midday heat has abated.

Estádio da Luz is on Av. Eusébio da Silva Ferreira, around 5 miles (8 kilometers) from central Lisbon. Hop-on, hop-off sightseeing tours stop here.

Driving

Starting from Praça do Comércio, head north on Av. da Liberdade. Continue straight onto Av. Fontes Pereira de Melo. Follow signs for Eixo Norte-Sul/Segunda Circular, then merge onto Segunda Circular (IC17) heading west. Take the exit toward Benfica/Estádio da Luz and follow the signs directly to the stadium.

Public transportation

The easiest way to reach Estádio da Luz is by taking the metro; the blue line stops at Colégio Militar/Luz station, a 5-minute walk away.

From late July until early September, Estádio da Luz hosts the Slide In Stadium experience, which lets you ride a slide between levels 3 and 2.
