Jacob’s Creek Visitor Centre

2129 Barossa Valley Way, Rowland Flat, South Australia, 5352

Jacob's Creek is a global wine brand and the oldest commercial winery in the Barossa Valley. Given its prestigious lineage, it's no surprise that the Jacob's Creek Visitor Center offers guests wine tastings, gourmet picnic lunches on the estate grounds, a café, education around the winemaking process, and accommodations.

The basics

The winery at Jacob's Creek was founded in 1847 by Bavarian immigrant Johann Gramp. It was opened to the public in 1976 and named for the creek running through the Barossa Valley. You can explore the winery’s dizzying number of wine offerings in one of its many wine-centric tasting experiences. The mix of world-class wine, gourmet foods, and sweeping views of the Barossa Valley landscape makes Jacob's Creek a popular wine experience.

Things to know before you go

  • Jacob's Creek Visitor Center is open daily from 10am to 4:30pm, excepting holiday closures.

  • Tastings are $10-20 per person and offered daily until 3:30pm for up to 6 people (larger groups can book a group tasting).

  • Try the winery's limited release wines (available exclusively at the property) with the Cellar Selection tasting option.

  • The center offers several picnic packages, which includes a picnic lunch made with locally sourced foods, a bottle of Jacob's Creek wine, and a tasting flight before or after.

How to get there

If you're driving, Jacob's Creek is located at 2129 Barossa Valley Way in Barossa Valley's Rowland Flat, about a 1-hour drive from Adelaide. From Adelaide, take the M2 and A20 highways to Gomersal Road and turn right at Barossa Valley Way/B19. Continue on Barossa Valley Way for about 3 miles (5 kilometers). Jacob’s Creek is on the right. Or, take a tour with transportation, and skip the need for a designated driver.

When to get there

Autumn is a popular time to explore the Barossa Valley, as it's when daytime temperatures are pleasant and the evenings are cool. In the busy fall season, the Barossa Valley comes to life with wine-centric events and festivals. The climate is similar in spring, but there are fewer crowds.

Stay in an original settler's cottage

To fully experience the heritage of the world-famous Jacob's Creek, stay on-site in a local settler's cottage. The circa 19th-century Jacob’s Estate Cottage was built in the local South Australian style and restored with modern conveniences and style. Up to six guests can stay in the three-bedroom, two-bathroom inn, surrounded by wide verandas for shade, beautiful gardens, and an alfresco dining area perfect for enjoying the local wine.
