Loma Larga Vineyards & Winery
Camino Lo Ovalle Km 2.8, Casablanca, Valparaíso
Loma Larga Vineyards & Winery is a family-owned vineyard that does things differently. The winery is celebrated for its cool-climate reds in an area focusing on white wine. They were also the first winery in the Casablanca Valley to grow Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Malbec grapes.
The basics
There are many ways to experience the winery, from taking a horseback tour through the vineyards to visiting the production facilities on a tour. Sommelier-led tastings are also a great way to get familiar with Loma Larga's catalog. Tours from Valpairiso that include transportation are available, and leaving the driving to someone else is a wise idea if you plan to do any tasting.
Things to know before you go
If you plan to tour the vineyards, wear comfortable outdoor shoes (with heels if you’re horseback riding).
Loma Larga is a must-visit for fans of wine and anyone who wants to see a bit of the countryside.
There’s not much for kids to do here, so it’s better to leave them at home.
How to get there
Loma Larga Vineyards & Winery is located in the Casablanca Valley, about a 45-minute drive from Vina del Mar and an hour’s drive from Santiago. Because of the winery's rural location, if you don't have your own car, it's far easier to join a tour than to attempt to get there using public transportation.
When to get there
The winery is open every day of the week, but you'll have fewer crowds if you visit on a weekday when most people are at work. Summer is an enjoyable time to visit when the weather is pleasant and the harvest hasn’t yet taken place, while the fall harvest can be an inconveniently busy time for visits.
Wine tasting tips
If you’re new to wine tasting, fear not—while plenty of rituals are involved, it’s not as complicated as it looks (and your guide can give you pointers). Start by swirling your wine (it’s easier by setting it on a table for support) before bringing it up to your nose for an inhale. Then, take a sip, letting the wine sit on your tongue before swallowing.
