Montpelier Plantation & Beach
St Johns Parish Montpelier Es, Pond Hill, Nevis
Set within a sprawling 18th-century plantation, Montpellier House is Nevis’s most historic estate, earning its swell reputation by hosting the nuptials of British Admiral Horatio Nelson and Fanny Nisbet and prestigious guests such as Princess Diana and Prince William. While its sugar cane days are over, it’s now a luxury hotel. The restaurant, spa, and grounds are open to visitors.
The Basics
If you’re not staying at Montpellier House as an overnight guest, most island sightseeing tours include the estate on the itinerary. Have an afternoon tea or a light lunch here in between stops at Nevis’s top attractions including the Old Bath House, believed to be one of the region's first tourist hotels; the Museum of Nevis to learn about the island’s native son, Alexander Hamilton; St. John’s Figtree Anglican Church, one of the oldest churches in the Carribean; and the tropical Botanical Gardens.
