Paris Bridge (Pont de Paris)
Av. Consell d'Europa, Andorra la Vella, Andorra, AD500
An Andorra la Vella landmark, the branching Paris Bridge (Pont de Paris or Puente de Paris) has a central location spanning the Valira River, and you’ll often see its triangular cable grids, suspended from white steel spheres, in photos. It’s particularly picturesque at night, with the name Andorra la Vella in lights and the spheres illuminated.
The basics
It’s hard to avoid seeing the Paris Bridge when exploring Andorra la Vella, whether you visit independently or with a guide. If you’re staying in Andorra, rather than passing through on one of the popular “three countries” tours from nearby Barcelona, plan to stop by when the Rotonda Fountains’ light and sound show is playing on the river. The vista of the bridge backed by dancing arcs of rainbow water is spectacular. But it’s also photogenic by day, particularly when the mountains are still capped in snow.
Things to know before you go
The Paris Bridge is a great choice for photographers, social media mavens, and fans of modern architecture.
Expect a line if you want to capture the classic shot of the bridge from Plaça de la Rotonda with Dalí’s La Noblesse du Temps (Melting Clock Sculpture) in the foreground.
There is wheelchair access both to the bridge itself and to viewing points in Plaça de la Rotonda.
How to get there
The Paris Bridge spans the Valira River a stone’s throw from Plaça de la Rotonda and La Noblesse du Temps (Melting Clock Sculpture). It should take less than 15 minutes to stroll along the waterfront from the bus station.
When to get there
The bridge is particularly special when it’s lit up at night, and most spectacular when the Rotonda Fountains’ sound and light show plays on the river. The light show generally runs at 9:30pm or 10pm on Friday nights, Saturday nights, and public holidays during the warmer months of the year.
Andorra’s most postcard-perfect bridges
If you’re looking for photos that feel straight out of Game of Thrones, then Andorra’s medieval bridges are tailor-made for you. The 15th-century Margineda Bridge curves over the Valira River in a single cobbled arc. Smaller, crumbling, and even more atmospheric, the Bridge of Sant Antoni de la Grella spans a slim valley with a restored Romanesque church.
