Best Western Plus Executive Residency Carlsbad

The hotel is less than a year old. I would say that the room and public areas were simple and clean. It took us 3 tries to find the drive to the hotel. There is no street sign and the road is bare dirt/gravel until you get to the hotel parking area with a narrow crossing over the railroad track. Although clean, the finishing of the room was completed poorly and may age the hotel quickly. The caulk around the tub is already showing wear and staining and there is gray floor grout slopped along the the wall giving a feel of dirtiness. The toilet rocked as you sat down and obviously wasn't sealed to the floor (felt a bit like a rollercoaster and gave us a laugh). We used the pool area and it was fine. The breakfast was as expected for a Best Western and served our needs. The TV during breakfast was very loud on a sitcom (the desk staff was watching it), better to have news and lower volume. We were going to Carlsbad Cavern and the hotel location was perfect for this trip.

Hotel was hard to get to from main hwy. It is located in a industrial section of town so views were not interesting. Upon my arrival, which was pre-paid, I had to provide a credit card for incidentals? and my drivers license to prove it was me. There was a mix up with room type but manager resolved but kept telling me I could have saved a bunch of money if I had used them directly. I also was charged for a room again and have never gotten my initial payment back from AAA. There was yet another mixed up and my reservation only was made for 1 night. After a day of sightseeing, we returned only to find we had been locked out of our room. After some discussion with staff, we were allowed to stay in our room for another night, of course payment was required. When we got into the room, we found that staff had been through our possessions and moved them around. It was late and we were tired so we did not confront staff. My longtime affection of Best Western is done. I will stay at other brands from now on.
