Once a 1907 department store, this former temple to commerce has been reinvented as a stylish mecca for travelers. Guest rooms have classy walnut veneer furniture and foyers with wood-grain tiles. The guest rooms are a creative synthesis of traditional and modern elements with an emphasis on local decorative objects. The walls are antique colors (such as aubergine), and appointed with plush drapes and upholstered headboards. These elements combine to create a sensual effect reminiscent of the grand movie theaters of the 1930s.
