Sceaux, Château de
( Highly Recommended )

Very little remains of this castle, built for Colbert: the main entrance decorated with sculptures by Coysevox, the Orangerie to the left, the old stables opposite and the Pavillon de l'Aurore tucked away on the right. But the splendid park has been preserved: it is one of the most 'romantic' ever designed by Le Nôtre, with its tall trees reflected in the secluded octagonal pool, its peaceful Grand Canal and its impressive Grandes Cascades.
The castle, rebuilt in the 19th century, houses the Musée de l'Ile de France illustrating ancient regional arts and crafts and the history of castles in the Paris Region.
