Lincoln has the distinction of being the only town that was named for Abraham Lincoln before he became famous. Developers of the site used the young lawyer's services to prepare the necessary documents to sell lots. Upon being informed that the settlement would be named for him, Lincoln christened the new townsite with the juice of a watermelon.
