At the head of the tidewater on the Maurice (MOR-ris) River, Millville was initially a river port. The discovery of silica sand fostered the growth of glassmaking; by the end of the 19th century the only American city to produce more glassware was Pittsburgh. Glass remains among Millville's diversified industries. The designation “The Holly City” rests on a holly farm in neighboring East Millville that once produced 14 varieties of the ornamental shrub for shipment around the world. Learn More...
