Sunnyside is known as the asparagus capital of the Northwest, although local farms and orchards produce more than 50 other crops, including grapes processed in area wineries. The 1859 Ben Snipes Cabin, across the street from the Sunnyside Historical Museum, was built by a pioneer cattleman and is reputedly the oldest homestead in the Yakima Valley. A statue of Snipes stands near the cabin. The Sunnyside State Wildlife Recreation Area, south of the city off SR 241 and McGee Road, occupies land along the Yakima River and is a haven for shorebirds. Learn More...
