About DoswellOriginally known as Hanover, the town was the home of James Doswell, a Revolutionary War veteran. His estate, Bullfield, was noted for its winning racehorses. Hanover was renamed in the 1890s in honor of Maj. Thomas Doswell, who returned from the Civil War to open a hotel and continue the family's horse-breeding business.
