DescriptionIn the early 1900s Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company obtained tracts of land in the Salt River Valley, with the intent of growing Egyptian cotton, a component in tire cords. The small farms established on this land evolved into company towns, including one named for its originator. Just 14 miles west of Phoenix, the town is now a suburban residential community. Goodyear Ballpark, 1933 S. Ballpark Way, is the spring training center for Major League Baseball's Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds.
