About StanleyOn the Salmon River (the “River of No Return”), Stanley is within the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, Sawtooth Valley and the spectacular Sawtooth Basin. Most float trips on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River and the main Salmon River are outfitted at this site. The town lies on two exceptionally scenic highways, SRs 21 and 75.
The Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway (SR 21) passes through part of the Sawtooth National Forest and ends in Boise; motorists should check for possible temporary closures due to snow. The northeastern segment of SR 75, the Salmon River Scenic Byway, passes through the Sawtooth National Recreation Area and then merges with US 93. The southeastern segment of SR 75, the Sawtooth Scenic Byway, heads south toward Twin Falls and Sun Valley.
