Complete List of AAA Five Diamond Restaurants in New York City

Updated: June 25, 2026

Written byCynthia McMurray

The perfect New York City getaway is not complete without a visit to some of the best fine dining locations in the region.

With so many top New York restaurants to choose from, it can be difficult to determine which to visit on your next adventure. The AAA Diamond program makes that a little easier, with a rating system that gives you an idea of what to expect before you go. At the peak of the Diamond evaluation system, is the prestigious AAA Five Diamond-designation.

For a restaurant to achieve the coveted AAA Five Diamond-designation, they must pass an on-site, unannounced evaluation by a AAA Inspector.

To achieve a Five Diamond ranking, a restaurant must have leading-edge cuisine prepared by highly trained chefs who use only the finest ingredients and preparation methods. The service must be consistently extraordinary in a restaurant with a sophisticated design and atmosphere. From the level of hospitality and professionalism at the location to distinctive dining offerings, Five Diamond New York restaurants have achieved the highest ranking of excellence.

If you are visiting New York City and want a Five Diamond experience, below is the comprehensive list of Five Diamond restaurants to help plan your visit to the Big Apple.

Atera Highlights

  • Upscale New American menu
  • Immersive sensory dining
  • Offers seasonal, revolving tasting menu
  • Wine pairings available

Atera is a Five Diamond restaurant named after the Basque phrase, "to go out". Opened in 2012 and situated in TriBeCa, it’s known for its 18-course tasting menu crafted by Chef Ronny Emborg. Atera offers an immersive, innovative dining experience that emphasizes seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant's minimalist and open-kitchen design allows diners to engage with the chefs, making it a destination for those seeking a unique dining experience in NYC.

Notes from AAA Inspector: Each day brings another opportunity for Chef Ronny Emborg and his team to create and dazzle like few others can. A treat for all the senses, a two-hour plus tasting menu here slowly builds and excels with incredibly visual and highly precise presentations and combinations. Golden Osetra caviar paired with pistachio and IPA cream is a signature dish, as is the luxuriously savory waffle with tuna and truffle. In a small dining room with a chef’s table open to the kitchen and a side dining table for a party of four, it does not get much more exclusive than this. Reservations are made weeks in advance. The build of the menu is carefully planned so that the diner does not get overwhelmed by the sheer number of courses or novel new arrangements being delivered from the kitchen. Delicate plating of halibut with cauliflower in a brown butter sauce or an artistic mackerel with geoduck ably show the natural beauty of a New Nordic-influenced kitchen and a reverence for almost raw fish. The juicy venison in pear, truffle and pine might equally make a diner yearn for the outdoorsy great North. Service is highly professional, warm and personable, with enthusiasm in presenting an experience which is truly new and pretty incredible. Wines are carefully paired and include some very fine European and American selections.

Atomix Highlights:

  • “Follow-up” restaurant to Atoboy
  • Uber-exclusive counter setting
  • One-of-a-kind narrative cards for each dish
  • Innovative Korean menu

As the newest addition to New York’s elite dining ranks and the AAA Five Diamond restaurants, Atomix ('Ato' meaning “gift”) is a true gem and bucket-list destination. Chef Junghyun Park and his wife and restaurant manager, Ellia Park, hit another home run with Atomix, a “follow-up” to their wildly popular Atoboy, the NoMad go-to for inspired Korean cuisine.

Chef Park’s intimate and highly immersive Chef’s Counter, a 14-seat dining experience, features a brilliant 12-course tasting menu that incorporates the art of ancient fermentation and food preservation with avant-garde ingredients for one of New York’s most ingenious culinary adventures.

From Atomix’s precisely curated rotating wine selection and exquisite, custom-designed narrative cards that provide guests with a historical account of each dish's heritage, ingredients and Chef Park’s concept to the impeccable gold-standard customer service, this restaurant truly is the “gift” that keeps on giving.

Notes from AAA Inspector: Deeply immersive, highly focused and brilliantly orchestrated. Atomix provides an unmatched look at the potential of modern Korean gastronomy. With only 14 seats arrayed around a sleek, U-shaped basement counter, the proximity to the culinary craft is absolute. Chef Junghyun 'JP' Park and Ellia Park treat every single course not just as a plate of food, but as a narrative chapter. Guests are given a beautifully printed card with each dish, outlining the specific provenance of the ingredients, the traditional Korean cooking methodology utilized and the conceptual inspiration behind it. The technical execution is flawless — whether it is a delicate sea bream or an incredibly complex preservation technique. ... It is an exclusive, unforgettable culinary journey that sets a new high-water mark for the city.

In an open kitchen, a stellar team fuses a blend of Asian ingredients with a French technique. Precisely plated and served in an intimate, if slightly austere setting, the nearly three-hour meal gradually builds.
