Updated: May 06, 2025

Written byAAA Travel Editorial Team

If you're planning a vacation to the Gulf coast area Biloxi offers a great mix of excitement and relaxation. Whether you're trying your luck in the casinos or enjoying the surf and sand on the area’s gorgeous beaches, the warmth of Biloxi's southern hospitality is undeniable.

It’s also not surprising that Biloxi’s one of the top romantic getaways in the entire country. The city provides scenic views, outdoor recreation, live entertainment and great dining options. Whether you want a couples' getaway for a fun weekend, a summer vacation, or your honeymoon, Biloxi’s an ideal destination.

Planning to bring the whole family here? Don’t let the casinos fool you into thinking Biloxi’s for adults only. The city’s a family-friendly place packed with plenty of things to do for all ages.

To help you get started, our AAA team offers a helpful Biloxi travel guide. It’s filled with tons of details on dining, hotels, attractions, transportation, day trips and more to help you plan your trip.

How to Get Around Biloxi

If you’re flying in or taking a bus into town, should you get a rental car? This really depends on your travel plans. Traveling outside the city for a day trip or two means you may be better off with your own set of wheels for convenience. But you can get around the city itself without them.

We’ll walk you through the city’s transportation options — and let you know what driving’s like around here if you do plan to use a car.

What to Expect When Driving Around Biloxi?

Prefer using a car to get around? You might run into some traffic coming into the city — and leaving it. But within the city, traffic typically isn’t bad. Many tourists take advantage of free Casino Hopper trolleys to get around the city, cutting down on road congestion.

Biloxi has several parking lots and garages in the downtown area. You can use these if you’ll be spending the day exploring the city. Or you can park for free in other spots, such as near the beaches.

What Are Other Ways to Get Around Biloxi?

You can get around just fine without a car in the city — especially as a casino guest. Some of your options for a car-free vacation here include:

  • Coast Transit Authority (CTA) buses
  • Casino Hopper trolleys
  • Ride-share services
  • Taxis

CTA runs bus routes in Biloxi and surrounding towns in the Gulf area. Check CTA routes and schedules for the most up-to-date info before you go!

CTA’s Casino Hopper trolleys give you a convenient and quick way to get to casinos and other attractions in the city.

Best Time to Visit Biloxi

What’s most important to you for your trip to Biloxi? Lower rates? Good weather? Your priorities can help you choose the right time for a vacation here. There’s plenty to see and do in the city in all seasons — but they all have their pros and cons.

Here are some of the best times to visit, depending on what you’re looking for:

Planning a low-cost trip? Then you’ll want to visit anywhere from late November through April. This is off-peak season for Biloxi — meaning fewer crowds and decreased rates on hotels and other expenses. It’s also after hurricane season, so typically there are no major storms to worry about, and you'll get to enjoy mild weather.

Want to enjoy exciting local events? Late spring and summer are great for attending South Mississippi Summer Fair and other festivities in the area. But note that this is also peak season. That comes with large crowds, lots of heat and humidity and high prices.

Want the best of both worlds? Coming here in late summer or fall helps you avoid the biggest crowds. The weather also cools off a bit, making temperatures more comfortable. Prices tend to drop from peak season rates — but this is also hurricane season.

Top Things to Do in Biloxi

Casinos tend to make the list of the best attractions in the area — and there are many to visit! But Biloxi has many other things to see and do. The beaches here are ideal for swimming during summer and strolling along the sand when it’s too chilly to go in the water.

Here is a list of activities and attractions you won't want to miss:

Explore Bellingrath Gardens

  • Duration: 7 to 9 hours

If you're looking for something outside the city, take a private day tour of Bellingrath Gardens. Wander through 65 acres of greenery filled with flowers and plants. Enjoy the area’s other attractions on your tour — including the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.

Enjoy a Scavenger Hunt

  • Duration: 2 hours

How about a clever and exciting way to get to know Biloxi? That’s what you’ll get when you do a scavenger hunt through the streets of the city. You’ll get to see hidden gems and visit historical, cultural, and artistic sites during your quest! This activity is fun for the entire family — or something to do solo.

Schedule a Holiday Photo Shoot

  • Duration: 1 hour

You can take plenty of your own pics during your vacation — but what about having professional shots done? Biloxi’s Gulf shores and downtown area offer tons of places that serve as great backgrounds for professional photos. You’ll have high-quality pics to treasure as vacation memories — or to celebrate a special occasion!

Experience the Hard Rock Cafe

  • Duration: 2 hours

Dining here isn’t your ordinary restaurant experience! The Hard Rock Cafe is filled with music memorabilia. Book tickets to save money and enjoy a themed meal here. You’ll get to listen to classic rock and stroll around to see all of the rock items lining the walls and other areas.

Biloxi Photo Spots

Biloxi offers amazing places to take picturesque photos during your trip. The Gulf waters offer incredible backdrops. But the downtown area also has plenty of spots for eye-catching pics. We recommend going to any — or all — of the following sites to capture amazing photos during your Biloxi vacation.

1. Town Green

How about a wide, open background in a beautifully artistic site? Biloxi’s Town Green features unusual works of art — damaged trees from Hurricane Katrina that local artists have intricately carved. Pose with these tree carvings and the area’s greenery behind you for memorable photos. The Town Green’s right near the Small Craft Harbor.

2. Biloxi Bay Bridge

Have your camera ready to snap pics of this impressive bridge while crossing over it. Or you can stop and pose for pics with the bridge in the background on either side. The southern part includes Gulf views. The bridge’s northern side features bay views. Take your pick of backdrop scenery — or snap photos on both sides.

3. Back Bay Waterway

The Gulf of Mexico isn’t the only beautiful body of water in the area. Head over to the Back Bay Waterway in northern Biloxi for more water views. You can pose with the waterway as your background. Or take pics while navigating the water via kayak or boat. No matter where you are in the waterway, you’ll get scenic shots.

4. White House Hotel

Biloxi isn’t all beaches and casinos. The city also has some historical buildings that are well worth a visit for photos. The White House Hotel on Beach Boulevard is one of these. Take some pics with the hotel’s stately columns and white exterior behind you. Staying here during your trip? Snap some pics inside for elegant interior backgrounds.

5. Ohr-O’Keefe Museum

Looking for photo spots with eye-catching backgrounds? Pose in front of this ceramics museum with its visually stunning metal exterior. If you plan to visit the museums you’ll find lots of spots inside for pics with works of art as backdrops. Ohr-O’Keefe Museum is on Beach Boulevard near Harrah’s Casino.

Day Trips from Biloxi

Thinking of including a day trip in your itinerary? Biloxi has plenty to do — but the Gulf Coast region is also filled with a lot to see, and some places are within two hours from the city. Take advantage of your trip here to check out one or two of these places. Here are some of the top spots to head to for day trips from Biloxi.

1. New Orleans

  • Distance: 91 miles

Consider a family day trip to New Orleans for family-friendly fun. New Orleans has tons of great places to visit and things to do, like the Louisiana Children’s Museum, New Orleans Steamboat Company, and Audubon Zoo. And it’s just 90 minutes away via I-10 W.

2. Ocean Springs, MS

  • Distance: 4 miles

A little closer to town, take a short drive to Ocean Springs. Go kayaking through the area’s river tributaries and bayous to look for local wildlife. Visit Fort Maurepas Park for fishing and other outdoor activities. Check out the Walter Anderson Museum of Art. Or go shopping in the downtown area’s quaint shops. Ocean Springs is only 10 minutes away via US-90 E.

3. Mobile, AL

  • Distance: 62 miles

If you're visiting Biloxi in winter and you time it right, you may want to head over to Mobile for the annual Mardi Gras parade and celebrations! Mobile’s known for having the first official Mardi Gras festival in the U.S. But there’s also more to enjoy here, including the Mobile Carnival Museum, USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park, and the Gulf Coast Explore Science Center. Mobile’s around an hour away via I-10 E.

4. Gulfport, MS

  • Distance: 13 miles

Spending the holidays in Biloxi? You may want to drive over to Gulfport for the Gulfport Harbor Lights Winter Festival to see incredible holiday light displays! Or you can come here any other time to shop at Gulfport Premium Outlets or do some gaming at Island View Casino Resort. Gulfport’s just 20 minutes from Biloxi via US-90 W.

5. Pensacola, FL

  • Distance: 120 miles

Exploring budget-friendly day trips? Drive over to Pensacola for plenty of free things to do! Visit on a Saturday for Palafox Market’s arts, crafts, and local produce and goods from area farmers. Pensacola’s a little under 2 hours away via I-10 E.

Visiting Biloxi on a Budget

Trying to save money overall — or so you’ll have more to spend at the casinos while you’re in town? Visiting Biloxi can end up being on the pricey side without careful planning. But we’re here to help! You can have a lower-cost vacation in Biloxi with the following tips from our seasoned AAA experts!

1. Check out casino promotions and deals. If you're staying in a casino hotel for your Biloxi vacation, look into the kinds of deals and special promotions they offer. Many of the area’s casinos have perks available for guests — allowing you to save some bucks during your trip.

2. Use airline and credit card reward points. You might spend more on airfare if you fly into town during peak tourist season. But you can bring that cost down with airline frequent flyer miles. Or you can use credit card reward points to lower your trip costs.

3. Explore low-cost and free things to do in Biloxi. A beach vacation sunbathing and swimming won’t cost you a thing, but Biloxi has other free and low-cost options to help you save money. You might get access to attractions and activities as a casino resort guest. Plan a visit to the Biloxi Lighthouse or take a stroll through the historic Old Biloxi Cemetery.

4. Book a room in nearby Ocean Springs, Moss Point, Gulfport, or D’Iberville. You might save on accommodations if you book a room at one of the towns or cities close to Biloxi. Staying just out of town tends to cost less than staying right in Biloxi — but you’re still just minutes from all of the excitement the city offers.

5. Use your AAA membership for vehicle discounts, tickets, and accommodations. Looking for ways to use your AAA membership benefits? Check out deals on attraction tickets, hotels, and car rentals through AAA! You can reduce your Biloxi trip expenses with these discounts, making it easier to plan a budget-friendly vacation here!
