The GRAMMY Museum at L.A. Live
Los Angeles, California
Many of the exhibits at this AAA GEM museum are temporary, but you can see things like an exhibit about Michael Jackson that includes outfits he performed in and items from the iconic “Thriller” music video. The temporary exhibits feature items from celebrated artists spanning music genres like rhythm and blues, jazz, doo-wop, rock and punk.
Hamburger Mary's Bar & Grille
This restaurant specializes in delicious burgers and over-the-top drag performances, so if that’s your thing, this is the place to be. Several days a week, you can dine and enjoy a show, including a cabaret Saturday evening, the Broadway Brunch on Sunday and celebrity impersonators on the first Saturday of each month.
Mardi Gras Museum of Imperial Calcasieu
Lake Charles, Louisiana
Wind your way through a sea of capes, feathers, headpieces, masks, rhinestones and sequins in what is purportedly the largest collection of New Orleans Mardi Gras costumes. This museum operates on limited hours, but they make up for it with the sheer quantity of sparkling dresses and a photo-op section where you can try on glittering outfits and snap photos.
Marvel's Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N.
Las Vegas, Nevada
The Avengers have invaded Las Vegas at this heroic display of costumes and props used by the characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At the S.T.A.T.I.O.N. are several versions of Ironman’s armor as well as Captain America’s suit and Thor’s battle-ready attire. You’ll also have the chance to admire the costumes of Ant-Man, Black Widow and Hawkeye.
MoPOP (Museum of Pop Culture)
You aren’t boldly going where no person has gone before at this AAA GEM, but you can visit the Infinite Worlds of Science Fiction exhibit to peruse props and costumes from “Battlestar Galactica,” “Blade Runner” and “Star Trek.” The museum also pays homage to other sci-fi/fantasy media in exhibits like Fantasy: Worlds of Myth and Magic that display props and costume from movies and TV programs including “The Chronicles of Narnia,” “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Wizard of Oz.”
