Colorado is a winter sports paradise. And that's why we're covering the top ski resorts in Denver for anyone looking to hit the slopes.

Not only are the powdery slopes of Colorado perfect for both professional and beginner skiers/snowboarders alike, but the amazing mountain views and breathtakingly beautiful vistas are unmatched. Because of this, Denver offers a vast range of ski resort lodges. And with so many options, choosing where to take your Colorado ski or snowboarding trip can be overwhelming. We're here to simplify that for you.

In this article, we'll review the top 10 must-visit ski resorts in Denver.

1. Breckenridge Ski Resort

Breckenridge is one of the most recognizable names in the winter getaway industry – and for good reason. The resort boasts almost 3,000 acres of skiable terrain and 187 unique trails. On top of that, it's super family-friendly, with options for skiers and snowboarders of all different abilities, from beginners to experts.

Right at the base of the resort is the cute and walkable town of Breckenridge. For adults, there are ample après ski opportunities with lots of bars downtown. And the shops, restaurants, delicious food and local music can't be missed either!

2. Echo Mountain

Echo Mountain is not only one of the top ski resorts in Denver, but it's the one closest to the city. You can be on the mountain in less than an hour from downtown Denver. So if you're staying in the city and want an easy commute, consider this ski resort. It's also much cheaper than resorts like Breckenridge, so it ranks highly in value.

Echo Mountain has nine trails across 60 skiable acres of terrain. A third of the mountain's trails are ranked as beginner. So this is a super family-friendly option – especially for those traveling with small children.

3. Eldora Mountain

Eldora Mountain is perfect for day skiers and snowboarders traveling from Denver. The mountain features challenging downhill skiing opportunities, cross-country and snowshoeing.

50% of the trails at Eldora Mountain are labeled as intermediate, and 30% are black diamonds (challenging). This means the mountain is pretty hard and most suitable for advanced skiers and snowboarders. The resort features 680 skiable acres of terrain, with the longest run being a whopping three miles long!

Again, Eldora is ideal for intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders looking for a day trip from Denver. There is no night skiing at this mountain and little to do after dark.

4. Vail Ski Resort

No article about the top ski resorts in Denver is complete without mentioning Vail.

Vail Ski Resort has long been known as one of the premier ski destinations in the world. Its stunning snow-capped setting, breathtaking trails, and luxurious amenities keep all its visitors entertained and always coming back for more.

Whether you're looking to take on some of the most challenging runs or practice your technique, Vail offers 5,317 acres of skiable terrain that meet all types of winter-sport enthusiasts. Off the slopes, you'll find plenty to do: Vail features some of the region's best restaurants and après skis. And its genuinely iconic location delivers spectacular views no matter where you are in the resort.

5. Beaver Creek Resort

Beaver Creek Resort is an unforgettable ski destination located just outside of Denver. You'll discover luxury amenities at this mountain alongside 167 challenge trails spread over 2,000 skiable acres.

Beaver Creek offers a convenient shuttle service from Denver International Airport to make traveling even more accessible. So if you're flying into Denver from out of town, consider this option for easy access.

6. Aspen

Aspen is one of the top ski resort options in the world, let alone the top ski resorts in Denver. This winter sports lover's paradise is nestled in the Rocky Mountains, approximately three hours from downtown Denver. It's a picturesque destination renowned for world-class skiing and snowboarding and its extensive trail networks for hiking and biking during all seasons. At the base of the ski mountain is a charming town overflowing with shopping, dining and nightlife.

Aspen is a luxury ski resort that attracts the affluent and famous from all over the world. So you can expect much higher prices from gear rentals, lift tickets and accommodations when visiting Aspen.

7. Winter Park Resort

There are two mountains at Winter Park with 166 individual slopes between them. The resort offers skiing and snowboarding well into the Spring, with estimated yearly closing dates in the second week of May! So if Winter just passed you by this year, this resort has got you covered.

8. Keystone Resort

Keystone Resort, just outside of Denver, is a more affordable alternative to Breckenridge and Vail. In fact, the mountain is owned by Vail. And it's designed to be slightly less luxurious, but equally as fun. Accordingly, everything from lodging to parking (free!) is less expensive at Keystone.

And there's no shortage of excitement for the whole family. Keystone mountain has 128 slopes, with lots of beginner and intermediate options.

9. Copper Mountain Ski Resort

Copper Mountain is just a bit farther afield than Breckenridge. But it may be worth the long journey. Copper Mountain is a little less expensive and usually less crowded than Breckenridge. It's also a fantastic mountain in its own right, with over 140 runs and almost 2,500 skiable acres.

10. Loveland Ski Area

Loveland Ski Area is only 53 miles west of downtown Denver, making it one of the most convenient mountains on this list of top ski resorts in Denver. It has 94 trails, with almost 50% being ranked as advanced. So this mountain is definitely not for the faint of heart. If you're looking for a real challenge near downtown Denver, look no further than Loveland Ski Area.
