Home to some 3,000 marine creatures and 170 different species—including penguins, fur seals, sharks, and stingrays—the beachside Acqua Mundo Aquarium offers an introduction to Brazil’s underwater wonders. Visit to observe fish and marine life in a variety of habitats.
The Basics
Marvel at the aquarium's ocean, a 211,337-gallon (800,000-liter) saltwater tank, filled with sharks and other marine life. Explore various habitats, including coral reefs, mangroves, and Amazonian rainforest. And watch the penguins and fur seals in the outdoor exhibition area. Visit the touch pools to interact with starfish and sea urchins under the supervision of aquarium staff.

The aquarium has a snack bar, ice cream kiosk, gift shop, and a children's play area.

How to Get There
Acqua Mundo is located along Enseada Beach in the coastal town of Guarujá, around 60 miles (98 kilometers) southeast of Sao Paulo for about a 1.5-hour drive. Daily buses run from Sao Paulo’s Jabaquara Station to Guarujá, and from there it’s a 10-minute taxi ride to the aquarium. Paid parking is also available.
When to Get There
The aquarium is open daily from mid-morning to early evening on weekdays and mid-morning to later evening on weekends. Time your visit to coincide with the daily animal feedings—the penguins, Amazonian fish, sharks, and rays are typically fed between 11am and 1pm (check the website for exact times).
Thing to Do in Guarujá
The seaside resort of Guarujá is best known for its long sandy beaches. Enseada Beach is the main family beach, lined with beach bars. Pitangueiras and Tombo Beach are popular with surfers. Take a surf lesson, enjoy water sports such as kayaking and Jet Skiing, explore the 16th-century Barra Grande Fortress, or take a day trip to the nearby Iporanga Waterfall.
