The Basics

The modern visitor center provides information on travel and activities not only in Albany, but along the south coast and throughout Western Australia. The highlight of a visit is a virtual-reality film that takes you on a scenic “flight” along Albany’s coast, but you can also pick up a free map and Albany Dining Out guide; find out about Albany’s best beaches, wineries, or whale-watching spots; or get recommendations on where to eat, drink, or shop in the city. The center has a well-stocked souvenir shop, where you can purchase local art and handicrafts, as well as guidebooks and travel essentials.

Things to Do in Albany

Must-visit attractions include Albany’s Historic Whaling Station and the National Anzac Centre, which tells the story of Australian and New Zealand Army Corps soldiers during World War I. Albany also makes a strategic gateway for exploring Western Australia’s south coast. Nature lovers can head out to Torndirrup National Park or hike part of the long-distance Bibbulmun Track, which runs all the way to Kalamunda near Perth.
